He was my doctor when I was a boy after we moved to Jackson County in 1974, or at least soon thereafter. I had a complicated medical history that I'm sure he took interest in, but I know he had a genuine interest in his patients as well. He leaves a tremendous legacy in the community.
Mike Marsee
Phil and Terri were our neighbors on Walkers Branch. The first Christmas I lived there, 1983, with John they brought us a fruit basket.

Dr. Philip Curd served on the Jackson County Board of Health for over 51 years! He was
named chairman in 1983. He was on the Home Health Advisory Board starting in 1974. He
was one of the leaders in starting the Community Health Coalition called JCHIPS (Jackson
County Health Improvement Partners) in 1997 and it is still in existence today. Dr. Curd didn’t
want our community to be without an Ambulance Service. So, in 1997 when the hospital let our
local ambulance service go, Dr. Curd held many meetings to ensure that service did not lapse.
Through the Board of Health, the Health Department ran the ambulance service for over 10
years. These are but a few of the things that he was the leader in starting for the health and
wellbeing of his community that he loved. The legacy that he left on health care, his community,
and those that knew him will never be forgotten!
Lisa Hobbs Brown for theJackson County Health Department and the Jackson County Board

Few individuals in Jackson County have had more of an impact than Dr. Curd, especially in the area of health care. Phil Curd was involved in our community in many other ways as well, always looking for ways to improve the quality of life in this community. He will be missed.
Keith Gabbard
His passing made me reflect on the fact that while we owe much to everyone who has touched us in our lives, some people make an impact that is beyond measure or thanks.
Phil was one of those people in my life.
In 1979 I had finished my medical training, and in return for a 4 year scholarship from the National Health Service I was obligated to work 4 years in a medically underserved area.
Dr Phil Curd and his wife Terrie invited my wife and I to come visit and see the clinic he’d started in Mckee, Kentucky. We spent the night sleeping on the floor of their old farm house in S-tree and getting chased around the yard by their resident geese. I visited the clinic in Mckee and learned of Phil’s vision of having a place that people could get quality medical care regardless of their ability to pay. It sounded like the kind of practice I wanted for my self and the kind of medical care I would want for my family.
I’m very grateful to Phil for giving me the opportunity to work at the White House Clinics for almost 40 years and for his example over those years.
Dr. David Green
My name is Sarah Belanger, and I hope it’s ok to send you something about my friend Phillip. Phillip and Terrie are the reason John and I found ourselves in the area, 35 years ago. Phillip recruited John to work with him and David Green at White House Clinic, back when it really was in a White House! Phillip’s gentle spirit, his lovely sense of humor, and his incredibly kind heart were the things that made him so special to us, and I’m sure to everyone who knew him. Just knowing he and Terrie were here made a bright and beautiful world. With his passing, the world is a little less bright, but the goodness he did will continue to shine on all of us.
Philip was my hero and role model. He is the reason we moved to this area and I started working for the White House Clinic. His inspiration and guidance helped me to found the Paint Lick Family Clinic in 2000. Even though I was leaving the clinic he started, he volunteered on the construction crew and mentored me through the process. He was a good friend and person.
