Byron Douglas "Doug" Lunsford Obituary
August 24, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, pop-pop, brother, uncle, and friend, Byron Douglas “Doug” Lunsford on August 12, 2024, at the age of 55. Doug was only 7 days shy of beating his father’s softball playing record at 56 years of age but we think he earned his title anyway. There is much to be shared about Doug but what most people remember of him is his vast radiation of kindness and selflessness. Doug is survived by his wife, Paula Lunsford of Annville, their two daughters and sons-in-law, Desiray & Evan Lakes of McKee and Savannah & Chase Farmer of Tyner, an adopted son, Anthony Rader of McKee, and four beloved grandchildren, Owen, Liam, and Emmarie Lakes and Madilyn Farmer. A sister and brother-in-law also survive Doug, Jennifer & Ethan “Dutch” Cowell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends who are more like family. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Emma Lunsford, as well as six siblings, Gloria Lunsford, Timothy “Bo” Lunsford, Patty Yonts, Anna Atwell, Louis Lunsford, and Jackie Lunsford. Doug attended the House of Prayer in Annville and this is where he re-dedicated his life to Christ. There is peace in knowing that Doug will spend an eternity in Heaven and that this is not the end for him. There aren’t many things Doug dedicated his time to aside from his family, but one of those things was softball. Over the years, Doug has touched many lives through the sport and enjoyed playing up until his passing days. As many of his teammates and friends referred to him as a “softball legend,” we hope his heavenly mansion has a golden pitcher's mound just for him. We know he is now part of an eternally winning team and has a coach who will take care of him until we meet again.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
1 To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
