Born in Jackson County, Ky. on Oct. 5, 1935, she left this life on Aug. 29, 2024 in Berea, Ky to reunite with the loved ones who passed before her.
She was born to Lewis Marshall and Retha (Webb) Abner of Sand Springs, Ky and they preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmerre, her son, Leo, brothers Ray and Carmel Abner, brothers-in-law Delbert Fox, Louis W. Fowler, and Earnest Collins.
She is survived by son Glenn and wife Susan. She is also survived by sisters Lovada Fox, Faye Fowler, and Barbara Collins along with brother Lewis Marshall Abner Jr and wife Freda, and sister-in-law Norma Jean Abner. Also included in the survivors are the many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
She was blessed with 5 grandchildren: Jason Cox (Summer), Chris Cox (Becky), Sean Huitger (Leslie), Emily Cox, and Alison Wurzbacher (David). In addition, she was blessed with 8 great- grandchildren: Diamond, Jesse, Brayden, Carter, Leah, Jamie (Bumper), Kylie, and Cooper.
Raised in Sand Springs, Jackson County, Ky. she worked the family farm while attending local schools. Married in Richmond, Ky. on March 10, 1956, she and her husband, also a Jackson County native, worked and raised their family in Hamilton, Oh. Widowed at the early age of 47, she went back to school and earned her GED. She started working at the local school district as a cafeteria worker and retired from the same district after working her way up to being the cafeteria manager. Her post retirement years were filled with the joys of being a caregiver and Mamaw to all of her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She also worked hard in her garden, always preserving and putting away enough food to share with everybody.
She was a faithful Christian and a shining example to all who knew her. Her courage and kindness could only be experienced, it cannot be explained. She has left us with a void that cannot be filled but she is at rest now and her memories and life lessons will not be forgotten.
