Battle of Big Hill Trophy Stays in Jackson County!
On Thursday, September 26th the Jackson County Generals Football team faced off against the Berea Independent Pirates in the Battle of Big Hill. Despite the pouring rain, the Generals were able to cruise their way to triumph, boasting a 46-14 success.
After a difficult loss in the previous game, the Generals came back with their heads held high and with a win in their hearts. Shortly after the game, I asked, dedicated athlete and offensive player of the game, Ashton Clemons, what he thought led to the progression from last week's game to tonight's victory. This is what he had to say, "We came in tonight and we wanted to run the ball and run it hard, that's what we didn't do well last week - we had a couple of turnovers last week. We came in, we didn't turn the ball over, we ran the ball, and we scored touchdowns."
Generals and General fans could not be more proud of the development that this team has shown, just within this season. These boys devote immense amounts of time and energy to the betterment of their team, and as they all begin to advance together, their efforts prove themselves on the field when they come out victorious.
There is incredible pride tonight in being a General. What do you have to say about your player's performance on the field during this phenomenal game? - That is the question I asked Head Coach of the Jackson County Generals Football team, Nicholas Sizemore. Here is what he had to say, "What I talked to the kids about after the game, we took a tough loss last week to Lynn Camp and we're trying to build a culture of getting back up when you get knocked down, we talked about that and I felt like we came out tonight and said `we are not going to be okay with what happened last week and we're going to bounce back and do what we have to do to get back in the winner's column,' so that is what we did. Now we are 3-2." It is clear that this team has been given vast fundamentals to success, and I personally can't wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for this impeccable crew.
Coach Sizemore added this on the team's social media page:
The "Battle of Big Hill" trophy is staying in Jackson County! Our Generals fought hard last night to bounce back from a tough previous week. Last night built character for our team, fans, and our culture. As a team we strive to give all that we have in every aspect of our lives. It is a culture aspect that we are striving toward. Last night showcased that the culture we are striving for is indeed making way.
We first want to thank our great sponsors for last night's game. Thank you to PraXel Line Services, PRTC - Peoples Rural Telephone Cooperative and AdventHealth for not only making this night special but giving us the opportunity to be successful as a program.
We want to thank the dedicated JCHS Varsity Cheerleaders for sticking around for all 4 quarters and keeping our fans on their feet cheering loud.
To our fans that braved the weather last night, thank you! By continuously supporting our team, you are helping us create a positive culture for JCHS football. Your loud cheers and persistence showed that no weather will stop our fans from cheering on the Generals.
Let's build off of this win and continue creating the General way! We will see you next Friday at home!
Ashton Clemmons was the Offensive Player of the Game. Nick Hays was the Defensive Player of the Game.
