Men Needed for Skilled Work

The National Defense Program has made necessary the recruiting of skilled and semi-skilled workers in many occupations because of an acute shortage in those particular occupations. 
The various State Employement Services have supplied workers of many classifications for positions in Navy Yards and other places of employment actively employed in the Defense Program. It is expected that there will be openings for Precision Machinist, Loftsman, Metalsmith, Coppersmith, Shipfitter, Boiler Maker, Tooldresser, Barrel Rifler, Barrel Turner and many others. 

Drunken Boys Damage Church Building
Last Monday night Sheriff Joe Pence and Deputy  Shelt Harrison arrested Dalford Isaacs, Vester and Deward Smith (Jim’s sons) Levi Powell, and Gorfie Turner, who were charged with banding and confederating, destroying public property, drunkenness, possessing liquor, and disturbance. 
It is reported the boys were at Oak Grove Church House, near Tyner, where the did considerable damage to the building and seats and setting fire to the building by turning over a lamp.

Leroy Vickers, Lonnie Schooley and Randell “Randy” Steward - Breaking and entering, 5 years running consecutively. Indictments: Allen Johnson, Clyde “Pat” Rader - Rape. Allen Johnson, George Johnson and Clyde “Pat” Rader - Unlawful detaining of a female. 

From Morehead State University
Three students from Jackson County are among the 6,261 persons enrolled at Morehead State University this fall. The students enrolled at Morehead from Jackson County are: Bill Roy Farmer, Connie Sue Bingham and Phyllis J. Gabbard. 

Birthday Celebration
Mr. Tom Bowles of Sand Gap celebrated his 88th birthday Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Berry Bowles. Relatives and friends from Jackson and surrounding counties as well as from out of state attended. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day. A nice dinner was served. He received many presents. We wish him many more happy birthdays.

Green Hall Post Office will close
Green Hall Postmaster Dena Bingham, who has been at the small post office for 16 years, will be passing out here last stamps and serving her last customer this Friday when the office will be officially closed. “They’re going to come up and sign me out and present me with my postal flag when I sign out at 12:30 p.m.” she said. The post office, which dates to 1854, is located on KY 30 east in the direction of Boonville and is known as the oldest office in Jackson County. 

Suit seeks reinstatement for former coach Moore
Former head basketball coach of the Jackson County High School Generals team, Donald “Duck” Moore, has had a civil suit filed on his behalf through the Kentucky Education Association in Jackson County Circuit Court. Moore, who is  a 22-year classroom teacher, was head basketball coach and atheletic director at the high school for the past three years, received notice from Dr. Roy L. Ragsdale in May that he was being relieved of his duties with a salary reduction at the end of last year.
