by Rylee Turner, JCHS Student Contributor

The Jackson County High School Generals Basketball team is stacked this year with an impressive selection of underclassmen - freshmen who are coming into the season with bright futures ahead of them and victories on their minds. So let's meet these young gentlemen and hear a bit about their history within the sport.
"My name is Tansen Truett, I started basketball when I was in second grade at McKee Elementary, I played all the way up until now - which is my freshman year. I was coached by Alex Wilson and Adam Duncan when I was in elementary school, then I was coached by Jason Vaughn and Justin Mchargue in middle school, and now I am being coached by Coach Parrett. Basketball has been fun, it's pretty tiring, but I like it a lot."
"My name is Braxton Coyle, I started in first grade on a travel team and I've been playing school ball since second grade. I've been coached by Jason Vaughn all throughout elementary school and middle school - he's coached me for about five years now; it's been fun. Now I'm coached by Coach Parrett. I love it, basketball is very important to me andI just want to go to college somewhere to play basketball - be better."
"My name is Wyatt Dunn, I've been playing basketball since I was six years old. I started playing on a travel team around first grade until around third grade, then I started with elementary ball and was coached by Jason Vaughn all throughout elementary school and middle school - now I'm a freshman and I'm being coached by Coach Parrett. We've been working really hard, we want to come out and hopefully succeed this season."
"My name is Wyatt Gray, I play for the Jackson County Varsity Basketball team. I've played ball for as long as I can remember, I played in elementary school at Tyner and went to middle school - had a good three years there, and here I am, ready to play on the Varsity level as a freshman. Let's Go!"
"Hello, this is Corey Cungain here, I'm on the Jackson County Varsity Basketball team. I started playing around six or seven years old - I've kind of played my whole life. I played elementary with the McKee Bulldogs right here in town and then I played middle school; when I was in eighth grade they asked me to play up for the Varsity team - my middle school Coach was Jason Vaughn. But here I am at the varsity level as a freshman, and I'm going to be playing for the Jackson County Varsity team. Go, Generals!"
"Hi, my name is Tyler Sandlin. I started playing basketball around second grade over at the Annville Ministries and then I started playing travel AAU ball with KBE - they were the ballers at the time. I've played with them ever since."
Following each player's introduction, they were each asked a personalized question.
Tansen Truett is a fifteen-year-old, quick on his feet, two-sport athlete. When he was asked what he was looking forward to most this year, this is what he had to say - "What I look forward to most is having fun with my friends and playing with some new teammates this year, and hopefully winning the 13th region championship."
Braxton Coyle is a fifteen-year-old, wittily charismatic, driven player. After being asked what his favorite part of the sport would have to be, Braxton replied - "My favorite part of the sport is really running and having fun with my teammates, being energetic makes me really excited - when we win games, especially away games, it's really fun because the bus rides back are cool."
Wyatt Dunn is a well-versed, three-sport athlete. During his interview, he was asked, who has driven him to become the basketball player he is today, to which he replied - "My dad has driven me to be the better ball player I am now, he'salways told me to be more confident in the shots I take - now I'm not so nervous, I go out there and I take confident shots. Just try my hardest."
Jake Jones is a fourteen-year-old, two-sport athlete and one of the quickest on the team. When he was asked how basketball has made him a better athlete in other sports, this is what he had to say - "Basketball has made me a better athlete because of the plyometrics and the workouts we've been doing. I really look forward to this season."
Wyatt Gray is a fifteen-year-old and has been described as an "excellent shooter" by Coach Greg Parrett. After being asked how this new level of athletics differs from what he has experienced in previous years, Gray replied - "I think it's very different because when you go into high school you play kids that are a couple of years older than you, grades higher than you, have more experience. You have to find ways to work around that and be confident in your game."
Corey Cunagin is a fifteen-year-old, tremendously talented, poised, athlete. During his interview, he was asked who prepared him most for high school sports, to which he responded - "I would have to say, when my dad was a coach at the middle school, I would practice with them in the gym - with the older classmen. That improved me a lot. I would also have to say, my brothers too, they have pushed me and they have gotten me better - every time I try to one-v-one them or anything like that."
Tyler Sandlin is a fourteen-year-old eighth grader who plays "up" for the high school basketball team, he is also a dual sport athlete - playing football in his off-season. When he was asked how playing up for the high school compares to playing middle school basketball, this is what he had to say - "Playing up for the High School, the game is a lot faster paced, there's a lot more pressure, there's a lot more movement in offense and defense; it's a lot more competitive than it is in middle school - there's always going to be somebody bigger and better than you, than what would be in middle school."
