LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: Celebrating the Blessings that Make Our Commonwealth Home

Legislators spent this month in Frankfort wrapping up interim meetings. Over the last several months, agencies, organizations, and constituents have brought their agendas to Frankfort to lay the foundation for issues we will consider during the 2025 Regular Session. Since June, I have used my columns to share about our session results and interim efforts. In the coming weeks, I will continue to focus on the work that came out of those committees and session preparations. However, as we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, I thought we could take a moment to consider that we have a lot to be thankful for and the true meaning of giving thanks.
As Kentuckians, we have so much to be thankful for. From the rolling hills and vibrant natural landscapes to the close-knit communities that make our Commonwealth feel like home. Our rich heritage, rooted in tradition and values, binds us together, while our spirit of resilience and hospitality shapes our future. Kentucky is more than just a place to live. It's a place where we build memories and feel a deep connection to one another.
Though we may go through difficult times, we are truly blessed to live in the United States of America. We are truly blessed to live in the great state of Kentucky. Sometimes we take our freedoms for granted when we should be grateful.
Thanksgiving offers us a special opportunity to reflect on the past year and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. With gratitude in our hearts, we are better prepared to both give and receive, making Thanksgiving the perfect start to our holiday season. November is a time for looking back and appreciating what we have, while December allows us to turn that gratitude into acts or giving, sharing our blessings with family and friends.
Among the things I am especially grateful for are the men and women of House District 89, whom I have the privilege of representing in Frankfort. While we may not always agree on every issue, I deeply value the input and engagement of all of you, whether it's through concerns, criticisms, or opinions on matters before us. I recognize that I represent everyone in this district, and I appreciate hearing from you - even when we disagree.
As we reflect on what we are thankful for, it's important to remember the deeper meaning of Thanksgiving, which is rooted in worship and our relationship with God. In 1620, the Pilgrims embarked on a journey aboard the Mayflower, seeking a place to freely practice their faith and build news and build new lives. Despite enduring many hardships, they persevered and established Plymouth, creating a community grounded in their faith and gratitude to God.
In the Bible, Thanksgiving is an expression of adoration, sacrifice, and praise. The Pilgrims honored God in their Mayflower Compact, and their legacy reminds us that no matter what trials we face, God remains with us.
This holiday season, let us pray for our friends, neighbors, and families. Be a helping hand to someone in need, and always be grateful for the blessings in your life. From my family to yours, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
