Meet the Generals ---- Junior Edition

by Rylee Turner, JCHS Student Contributor

The Jackson County Generals are stacked this year when it comes to basketball. With five Juniors in total, coming together to form both the girls' and boys' teams, this season is only getting started and will be one to remember.
Let's begin by meeting the boys.
"Hi, my name is Kendell Peters, I'm a Junior and I've been playing basketball since elementary school. What got me into the game is the love of the game, I like playing basketball." Kendell Peters is a seventeen-year-old guard, with much to offer when it comes to gameplay and off-the-court courtesy. When he was asked what it had taken to get him here as a player regarding the impressive 3-point average that he boasted at the Shoot-a-Thon fundraiser he said, "It's taken a lot of hard work and a bunch of shooting drills for me to be able to be a better shooter - I work on my shooting almost every day in practice."
"Hi, I am Quentin McQueen, I am sixteen years old and I have played for five years. I got into basketball when I was watching the TV and LeBron went to Miami and Cleveland was upset at him." Quentin McQueen is quite the character when it comes to his personality outside of basketball, but remains professional on the court. After being asked how his mindset has changed on the court since last season and how this change has made him a better player, he replied - "I just stopped worrying and it helps me keep my head high when I make a mistake instead of putting my head low."
"Hello, my name is Ashton Clemons, I am a 17-year-old Junior. I have played basketball my whole life, my parents are the ones that got me into it and taught me all my sports and how to play - I love basketball and baseball." Ashton Clemons is an extremely ambitious, well-rounded, three-sport-athlete. During football season Ashton suffered a season-ending injury that would carry over to basketball. Despite this, he has remained an active member of the team and can often be found cheering on his teammates from the sidelines. When Clemons was asked how basketball has shaped him as a person he wholeheartedly replied, "Basketball has shaped me as a person by teaching me how to be a leader and to always persevere through struggles and hard times and always get better." As Ashton is greatly missed during this time of healing, it is the burning question, when will he be back? When asked about his recovery he said - "I'm planning on being back around January, being able to play sports again - by the end of January is what we are hoping." He has more than proven himself to be a valuable asset to the team and will be again once he returns, whether it be this season or next.
"Hi, my name is Braylon Combs, I'm seventeen years old and I've played ball since first grade over at the Annville Ministries and I've played travel ball with KBE since third grade - I recently moved back from North Laurel." When Braylon was asked about how his transition back to Jackson County has been for him as a player he said, "It's been good moving back, I missed playing ball with my friends over here at Jackson County and I feel like we have a shot to compete in the district the year."
The Lady Generals also have a Junior on the docket - Seventeen-year-old guard, Scarlett Peel is currently battling an injury and awaits her time to come back as a better, stronger player.
These are next year's seniors; it is only up from here for this group of Generals.
