JCHS Senior Competes in Major League Fishing Tournament

Congratulations to Senior JCHS Bass Fishing angler Caden Ayers. Last weekend, he fished in the Major League Fishing Tournament as a co-angler against professional anglers. Caden made the cut off after day one and just fell short on day 2 at the Pickwick Lake Tournament. Way to go, Caden!
High school bass fishing in Kentucky officially started in 2013 when the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) recognized it as a sanctioned sport. The initiative was embraced with enthusiasm, quickly attracting a devoted following. This sport offers students a chance to participate in a competitive and fun activity that encourages teamwork, strategic thinking, and a profound appreciation for nature.
During the regular season, teams participate in various qualifying events held on lakes and rivers across the state. Each event follows a standard format: Teams fish for a designated period, usually from early morning until mid-afternoon. The weight of each team's best five bass is recorded, and the teams with the highest total weights earn points toward qualifying for the state championship.
The pinnacle of high school bass fishing in Kentucky is the state championship, held annually at a premier fishing location such as Kentucky Lake or Lake Cumberland. The championship brings together the top teams from across the state to compete for the title of state champion. The event spans multiple days, often including practice days, preliminary rounds, and the final competition day. The team with the highest cumulative weight over the competition days is crowned the state champion.
