Out of the Past

At a meeting of the Fiscal Couret Monday Miss Burnam Abner, of Morrill, was named Referral Agent of Jackson County at a salary of 75.00 per month. Miss Jessie Riley Wilson, of Maulden, was named as Clerk to the Referral agent at a salary of $50.00 per month. We understand that several applicants had applied for the position of Agent but were rejected on the grounds that they were related to the members of the Fiscal Court. The appointment must meet with the approval of the Lexington WPS office before the office will be opened. 

Wednesday afternoon Sheriff Joe Pence and Deputy Shelt Harrison arrested Bob Bundy on the New Zion road with 10 pints of whiskey and a 45 automatic pistol. He has filled bond for the trial on the fourth Saturday before Squire Green Isaacs.  The same afternoon officers arrested Earl Whicker, Sam Collins, and Tincher Linch near New Zion. They had 9 pints of moonshine and a .38 S&W pistol, officers reported. They are in jail awaiting trial on the fourth Saturday before Squire Green Isaacs. 

Army PFC. Delmer Hundley of Parrott, KY recently departed from Fort Riley, Kan., with other members of the 1st Infantry Division’s 33rd Artillery for a six-month tour of duty in Germany as part of Exercise Long Thrust V1. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hundley, live in Parrot. The 23 year old soldier attended McKee High School.

The Jackson County 4-H Council met in the REA Building on Monday and made plans for the year’s activities. The Pancake Supper and Talent Show will be held this year on February 23. The supper is scheduled for 5 - 7 p.m. at the McKee Reformed Church dining hall and the Talent Show will be at the McKee Gym. County-wide Fun Nights, similar to the one held last year, were scheduled for July 6th and August 10th at the Bond Memorial Park with a return of the Carnival in September. 

Randy Bingham, Mitchell Parrett, and Margaret H. Rader have been nominated for the “Jackson County GOP Volunteer of the Year.” The winner will be announced at the GOP “Old Time” Statewide Lincoln Dinner on February 19th at the Hurstborne Inn and Convention Center in Louisville. The State Republican party wanted to recognize volunteers who stood out among the rest in the past election year. Volunteers are the backbone of the GOP and the Party cannot be effective without them. 

Junior guard Jeff “Chico” Baldwin was recently selected for the  Kentucky High School Junior All-Star team which will represent the state in exhibition games throughout Kentucky while traveling to Las Vegas and Los Angeles in July for prestigious tournaments. Baldwin, who averages 22 points per game, five assists, and five steals, was selected by Eddie Ford the father of Wildcat point guard Travis Ford. Jackson County Coach Keith Hays said he is pleased that Jeff will get this opportunity. “This will be a great honor for him,” Hays said. “Not only for him but it will help the team in the longrun.”
