A Student's Perspective: Generals and Lady Generals Play Doubleheader against 49th District Rival North Laurel
On February 9th, the Jackson County Generals and Lady Generals would face off against the North Laurel Jaguars in their second double-header of the season.
The Lady Generals came in hot after an intense win at Clay County over the Lady Tigers, but unfortunately, this forward energy was not enough to bring home a victory from Laurel County. During a post-game interview with PRTC at Clay County, Abby Gilbert mentioned that losses built momentum for the team. When asked if this 23-50 loss was going to have a similar effect, Abby said, "Yeah, I think coming into the game, we knew that this was a good team, and we just knew whether a win or a loss tonight, that it would be a learning experience for us and just a growing experience."
As the season continues, it is apparent that the Lady's take these learning experiences to heart and have grown tremendously as a team, on and off the court.
The Generals also battled at North Laurel, and while the game ended in a similar fate to the girls, this 45-77 match was not without its highlights. One player in particular, junior Braylon Combs, stepped up to bat, scoring 9 points all from three and showing intense effort on defense. Combs has proven to be quite the asset to the Generals since his transfer from North Laurel early in the season. When asked how being in the starting lineup for such a special game affected his game-play, he said, "To start, I kind of had a little bit of a rocky start to the season, not shooting good, but these past two games, I shot great from the field, that helped it a lot."
Both the Generals and Lady Generals will be back in home action on Valentine's Day against Clay County. This won't be one to miss.
