15-year-old arrested for allegedly killing mom’s abusive boyfriend

A 15-year-old boy in Ohio was arrested after allegedly shooting and killing his mother’s abusive boyfriend, according to authorities.
The teenager’s mother informed the police that 30-year-old Levonte Hyde struck her in the face multiple times while they were driving to a store.
When officers arrived, they found Hyde with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The teen was taken into custody as a person of interest and was charged with murder later that day.
A magistrate has ruled that the teen must remain in the detention center or shelter care until his next hearing, which is anticipated to be on March 3.
Police stated that the mother’s boyfriend has a history of violence.

Earlier in the day, the police charged him with domestic violence just hours before he was killed.
In 2017, Hyde was charged with assault and criminal damaging. The woman involved in that case told police that he bit her on the forearm, leaving visible marks, and he damaged a TV, wall, and door by kicking them.
She refused medical treatment, and the assault charge against Hyde was dropped the following year.
He was convicted of a lesser charge in 2018 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 33 days suspended and credit for 57 days.
The judge also ordered him to keep his distance from her and pay $110 in fines along with $240 in restitution.
Hyde was placed on probation for 11 months, but it was terminated in 2019 when he failed to pay the money owed.
It was eventually paid, and according to the court docket, he made an unsuccessful attempt to expunge the charge from his record.
Recently, Hyde was charged with theft in 2022 related to the sale of a dog; however, that charge was dismissed in early 2024.
