Lynch prepares for seat belt law in legislature
Jackson County Sheriff Hershel Lynch says he has mixed feelings about the proposed seat belt law working its way through the Kentucky General Assembly in Frankfort. “In cases it would save lives,” he said. “If it’s the law we’ll have to enforce it. However, Lynch said he feels most Jackson Countians are not in favor of the law, which will likely see fines added onto those stopped for speeding or other traffic violations. The measure most likely to pass the General Assembly calls for a $25 fine and an addition $15 plus court costs. The $15 will likely go into a fund for medical costs of children.
System studying how to make up 17 lost days
Superintendent Justin “Jay” Minnehan will be circulating a questionnaire to teachers and the senior class to determine the best way to make p snow and other days missed during the school year. If there are no more such days, the system will have to make up 17 days - a move that could extend school into June 6 or 7. Minnehan said it is likely that spring break will be abbreviated and other such measures such as Saturday school and extending school days will also be studied. Whatever measures are taken, the senior class will be taken into consideration and will be surveyed. “They have the strongest vested interest because they have plans immediately after high school,” he said. “Any alteration in this school calendar ought to involve our seniors. Many seniors are making plans for work, military service and college after graduation.
A healthy Jackson County requires great community news.
