Bad News Regarding UK Wildcat Jaxson Robinson (Free Access)

Jaxson Robinson's season has come to an end, as well as his career at Kentucky and in college basketball.

Following Saturday's loss to top-ranked Auburn at Rupp Arena, UK coach Mark Pope announced that Robinson would have surgery on his wrist next week. Pope stated that Robinson, who was the team's second-leading scorer with 13 points per game and started all 24 games he appeared in, will not be cleared to return until the end of May, thus marking the end of the fifth-year senior guard's tenure with the Wildcats.

Pope, a former medical student at Columbia University, explained the specifics of Robinson's injury.

"He's got a torn subsheath to his ECU tendon," Pope said. "The tendon is slipping out of its groove because the sheath that holds it in place is partially torn."

Robinson injured his wrist during a practice on February 7. He played the following day in a win over South Carolina but then missed the next four games (Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt, and Alabama) before returning for Wednesday's victory against Oklahoma. In the 83-82 win over the Sooners, Robinson only participated in the first half, as he aggravated the wrist injury through contact during the game.

Pope mentioned that the team knew Robinson would eventually require surgery when the injury first occurred last month. Robinson attempted to continue playing by rehabilitating and receiving an injection.

Ultimately, the decision was made on Friday night to stop Robinson's participation for the rest of the season.

"He will undergo surgery performed by one of the world's leading surgeons for this procedure," Pope said.

"The recovery period is three months, so he is expected to be fully recovered by early June," Pope added
