Hometown heroes are often not driven by a desire for recognition. They act because they believe it is the right thing to do. They are not swayed by external validation. In fact, some may be reluctant to accept compliments or thanks. Such is the case with Christian Collins.

Christian has worked in several capacities serving our community. Collins has been a member of Sand Gap Volunteer Fire Department for at least four years and a Deputy of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for three years. Before that, Collins worked at Jackson County Dispatch for about a year.

When asked what the most rewarding aspect of his work in these positions was, Collins responded, "The most rewarding aspect of both agencies is undoubtedly being able to make a difference to people during what may be the most difficult time of their life."

Deputy Collins grew up in Jackson County and graduated from JCHS in 2019. He attended college until COVID-19 interrupted everything. He decided not to return after the pandemic. His parents are Chris and Jennifer Collins. Collins reported, "Dad is from here, Mom was born in Ohio but moved here at a very young age. I have a sister, Rylie, and a beautiful girlfriend, LaNeika.

The present and future of Jackson County are in good hands with admirable, capable, and dedicated young leaders like Deputy Collins. Collins described his commitment to serving our community, "My motivation is the idea of change in our community, change for the better."
