Jackson County Swift Water Rescue Team Assists Hospice Nurse in Patient Rescue

During the recent flooding, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, City of McKee Police Department, Jackson County Emergency Management, and Jackson County EMS responded to a medical call for service in the Indian Creek area. Due to the hazardous weather conditions, the Swift Water Rescue Team had to be utilized. The Swift Water Rescue Team successfully removed the patient from the residence and provided care by Jackson County EMS.
When deadly flooding cut off access and phone service for a Jackson County hospice patient on Friday, a healthcare worker teamed up with the emergency management team to care for her patient. According to Hospice Care Plus, after finding out her patient was isolated and couldn't be reached by phone, Nurse Makale Fox worked with Jackson County Emergency Management (JCEM) to find a way to get to her.
The hospice care nonprofit thanked Makale for her unwavering commitment and JCEM for enabling her to reach her patient.
"With the support of Jackson County Emergency Management, Makale was able to safely navigate through the flooded area and reach her patient, ensuring they received the comfort and care they deserved," Hospice Care Plus wrote.
In November 2022, in response to repeating flooding emergencies, the fiscal court approved purchasing a Zodiak Boat to be used by Jackson County Emergency Management, First Responders, or local Law Enforcement for emergency rescues when necessary. The winning bid was approved at $23,425 for a Swift Water Rescue Boat purchased through a USDA Grant. This purchase proved invaluable during this Swift Water Rescue.
