Providing Assistance to Disaster Victims & Issues at the Transfer Station

The impact of bad weather made a very tragic impact on our neighbors in Laurel County last week. Anytime a life is lost it is a tragedy much less several lives. The amount of devastation is heartbreaking to say the least and our friends and neighbors will be recovering from this for years to come.
Once we learned of the tornado, we immediately offered every resource we had available to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. I was on the phone early Saturday morning with Laurel County Judge Executive, David Westerfield, and our EM staff has been assisting daily alongside Laurel County EM and Kentucky EM officials ever since the storm. We will continue to assist until they no longer need our help.
Our community has already banned together taking up donations and money to assist those affected by the tornado. Our thoughts and prayers will remain with them as time goes along. The way many lost everything they had in a matter of minutes will make you appreciate what you have and be thankful for your health and safety.
The Jackson County Transfer station has seen some real issues the past couple weeks. The loader we use to compact the garbage is broken down plus our compactor is on its last leg. If you have been there on site you realize we have a real mess with a significant amount of trash. We are working to get the loader fixed and are currently having to use a small skid steer to try and load garbage into a trailer to haul it to Lily. We are going to have to redesign the transfer station to keep this from happening again once we get it all cleaned up. I apologize for the mess and we will hopefully have it cleaned up soon.
Have a blessed week
