June 23, 2025

A crash into a building in Georgetown early Monday morning left a driver with potentially life-threatening injuries.

It happened around 3 a.m. at the Save A Lot on Broadway Street. According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Georgetown Police Department had initiated a traffic stop on an SUV for speeding and suspected DUI.

The driver, a 35-year-old woman, refused to stop and led officers on a short chase down Broadway. She lost control of the SUV and crashed into the front of the store, ejecting her from the vehicle.

She was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. No one else was in the vehicle, and no one was inside the store at the time of the crash.

Broadway Street was closed for several hours between Jefferson and Washington streets but has since reopened.

The investigation into what happened is still ongoing.
