Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee taps Truett as House Chair
July 16, 2025

Frankfort, Kentucky (July 15, 2025) – As lawmakers prepare for the upcoming 2026 Regular Session, the Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee (EAARS) held its first meeting of the interim on Monday. The committee elected Representative Timmy Truett of McKee and Senator Matt Deneen of Elizabethtown as co-chairs.
“I am honored to be elected the House chairman for this committee,” Truett said. “EAARS often flies under the radar, but the committee and its members do important work for education in the commonwealth. We work closely with the Office of Education Accountability to break down the performance of our system to see how and where we can improve.”
EAARS is a statutorily required committee. It is tasked with reviewing education-related administrative regulations, advising the Kentucky Department of Education on its assessment and accountability standards and systems, and providing oversight for the Office of Education Accountability (OEA). Each interim it receives and commissions reports and research from OEA.
“Our work with OEA ensures that the public and the legislature have a full understanding of the state of our education system from district test scores, outcomes by student population, and salary schedules,” Truett added. “Our work here allows us to make better laws, and craft stronger budgets regarding our education system. This committee will pave the way for impactful decisions in the 2026 Regular Session.”
