Judge Gabbard Addresses Road Damages Due to Severe Weather Events

Several Counties in Kentucky have seen more than their share of severe weather events in the past few years. Jackson County is included in that as we have been a part of more than one disaster declaration in recent months. We still have some bridges that are awaiting repair orders by FEMA and some that we are seeking funding through the State to help offset the cost of repair or reconstruction.
Even though we are several months out from the severe weather events that caused the damage, our EM Director and Assistant Director have put in countless hours of damage assessment and site visits with federal and state officials. The process of receiving state or federal assistance for a disaster sometimes takes many months and in some cases years. It is in no way a snap of your fingers and there it is scenario.
We appreciate any help we can receive. The bridge on Bean Pole Road, the slide on Durham School Road, the road slide on Drip Rock Holiness Church Road, the countless tiles, ditch failures, and the list goes on are all part of these assessments. We hope to receive help sooner rather than later.
Jackson County has been fortunate that we have not had it worse than we have. Laurel County, Pulaski County, people in North Carolina and recently Texas have seen unimaginable disasters. Anytime you see loss of life it is an awful situation. Some things can always be worse.
We have our share of road issues and I would love to have the money to fix them all. However, I feel we have done the best we could with what we have got to work with. We are very hopeful that more road funding will become available for us and counties like us in the near future.
Have a blessed week
