Janice Louise King Shackelford Obituary

Janice Louise King Shackelford, was born April 4, 1948, in Oneida, KY, and departed this life at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY, on July 25, 2025, being 77 years of age.
She was the loving wife of the late Garrett Shackelford, Jr. They were joined in marriage on May 28, 1966, and separated by death on July 31, 2023. She was the youngest daughter of the late Lige King and Datha Baldwin King.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Shackelford, and his wife Melody, and another son Kenneth Shackelford and his wife Ronda. She is survived by a grandson, Joshua Fisher-Caudill and his wife Laura. She is survived by a sister, Ruth Parrett.
Janice was blessed to have her adopted grandchildren: Chloe VanZant and Angel Davis; Montgomery, Slone and Ford Bingham, whose mother, Lauren Montgomery Bingham, is also an adopted grandchild to Janice.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Mary, another grandchild, Kenneth and Ronda’s “Baby Shack”. Also, by one brother Ralph King and two sisters, Alpha Parrett and Opal Parrett.
Janice was raised in the Bond Holiness Church where she was saved on March 19, 1977, and baptized on May 22, also in 1977. She began attending Gray Hawk Baptist Church in February of 1985 and was later baptized there on May 19, 1996. She faithfully attended and served there the rest of her life as she worked in Women’s Missionary Union, Children’s Home Missions, sang in the choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher and prepared the weekly church bulletin for many years.
Our loss is truly Heaven’s gain.
Services will be held at Lakes Funeral Home in McKee, KY, on July 29 with the service beginning at 2pm for the public. Everett VanZant, Brody Keck and Ronald Rose will be conducting the service.
