Lincoln Hall and the Old Jail Project

by Judge Shane Gabbard

The County and many from different areas of our region are in shock with the loss of Lincoln Hall in Annville. This was more than a building, it was a historic marker of progress and success in our community. The hall was a former school, home to many weddings and reunions as well as community gatherings. News of the late night fire that destroyed the building spread almost as quickly as the fire. So many are in shock and devastated that this 103-year-old building is gone. I am not sure what the Fiscal Court can do to help but I'm sure that the community will rally around Grace Covenant Ministries in seeing this building rebuilt in due time. We will help in whatever way we can.

Speaking of historic buildings, the old Jail Project is still waiting for confirmation on our submittal of the Environmental Review to proceed with asbestos removal and contractor selection. The office of HUD is handling the money allocated for the project and has yet to provide Jackson County with the first deposit for the project. We have received no funds so far. This has become a very frustrating project as it seems it is taking more time than I would like to get started. We have until 2030 to complete the project but would like to see it operational long before that. I will update as we go along.

Have a blessed week
