Alma (Spivey) Carey Obituary

Alma (Spivey) Carey, 88, Connersville, went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2024, at Heritage House Nursing Home.

Alma was born August 6, 1935, in Jackson County, Kentucky to the late Green Clay and Rhoda (Strong) Spivey. She was the youngest of four children; her siblings were Emmett Spivey, Arnold Spivey, and Lucy Spivey Carter. All preceded her in death.

Alma graduated from McKee High School in 1954. Following graduation she moved to Lexinton, KY to work at Lowenthal’s Fur Company. In 1955-1957 she lived in Cincinnati and worked at Cincinnati Rubber Company and RCA.

Alma had three children from her first marriage. Her children are Jefferson E. Ward, Milah (Jack) Frost and Emmett Kevin Ward. Emmett Kevin also preceded her in death.

Alma married Robert L. Gard in 1988, he passed away in 2008.

Alma worked at Fayette Federal Savings and Loan from 1978-1992 and from 1992-2008 she worked with her late husband Robert Gard in their lawn care business.

Alma Married Buford Carey in 2009. Alma and Buford enjoyed traveling, attending church, blue grass concerts, dining out and spending time with friends and family. Together, they donated hundreds of Alma’s crocheted hats to the Salvation Army and to Appalachian charities.

Alma leaves behind her husband, Buford Carey, a son, daughter, four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at Urban Winkler Funeral Home on Friday February 9, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rob Judd officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 10:00 am until the hour of the service. Alma will be laid to rest at Tyner Cemetery West in Jackson County, Kentucky.
