JCHS Lady Generals Make School History Becoming First School Fast Pitch Softball Team to Win 13[th] Region All "A" Championship
The Jackson County Lady Generals had another impressive week. After defeating Lynn Camp in the first round of the All "A" tournament on April 8[th], the Lady Generals faced the Pineville Lady Lions in the semi-finals at Lincoln Memorial University. Going into the top of the seventh, the Lady Generals were down 3-5. Blakelynn Fee started the inning with a double and eventually scored on a single by Baylee Berry. Berry advanced to third on a groundout by Kylie Moore. The Lady Generals were able to tie the score when Berry, with two outs, stole home on a throw from the catcher to the pitcher, which forced the game into extra innings. In the top of the ninth, Berry and Fee led off the inning with inside the park home runs, which gave them a 7-5 lead. The team would manage two more runs in the inning. Due to their "never give up" mindset, the Lady Generals held on to win 9-6. Candice Williams had another strong pitching performance by striking out twenty of the twenty-seven batters she faced. Fee and Berry led the offense with three hits each.
In the All "A" Championship game the Lady Generals faced the Harlan Lady Dragons. With a score of 11-0, the Lady Generals became the first team in the history of Jackson County fast pitch softball to win the 13[th] Region All "A" Championship. Williams had nine strikeouts in five innings, which brought her career total to 805. Berry (3 hits), Aubrey Estridge and Fee (2 hits) led the charge offensively with solo home runs. Williams also had two hits. With the win, the Lady Generals will play in the state tournament in Owensboro on April 27-28. Their current record is 13-4.
