In accordance with KRS 118.225 (Determination of order of names on ballot), a public drawing for ballot positions in the 2026 Primary Election was held by the County Clerk at the old courthouse in McKee, KY on Thursday, January 15th, 2026 (the Thursday following the filing deadline for the primary).
On Monday, January 26, 2026, the Secretary of State will certify the candidates’ names to County Clerks (the third Monday after the filing deadline for the primary).
County Clerk, Donald “Duck Moore” facilitated the public drawing. The drawing(s) were witnessed by a representative from the Republican Party (Robert Lakes), the Democratic Party (Lonzo Moore), and the Sheriff’s Office (Jeff Henderson). (Sheriff Isaacs is running for reelection, so he could not serve as a witness. Instead, Jeff Henderson was selected to act as a proxy for Sheriff Isaacs).
One by one, the candidates for each office drew a piece of paper with a number written on it corresponding to a ballot position. The number drawn was then shown to each witness to confirm. If a candidate wasn’t present, Court Security Officer, Brandon Evans, acted as their proxy and drew for them. (If a candidate is running unopposed, then their ballot position is automatically #1.)
The results of the public drawing were as follows. The number preceding the name corresponds to the candidate’s ballot position for the 2026 Primary Election to be held on May 19, 2026.
