There was some exciting news from the JCHS “SMILE” Club sign-ups last week. Ms. Conn reported, “We had an incredible turnout—105 students signed up to be part of this new initiative at JCHS!”
Ms Conn reported, “SMILE is our school’s branch of the Rae of Sunshine KY organization, created in memory of Taylor Rae Nolan, and it focuses on promoting kindness, positivity, and emotional well-being. The response from our students shows just how needed and welcomed this work is.”
Through SMILE, students will have opportunities to:
Encourage acts of kindness
Build leadership through positivity
Support mental health awareness
Help create a more connected and uplifting school culture
The interest exhibited by the JCHS students was overwhelming in the best way, and it’s clear that our students are eager to be part of something meaningful that supports themselves and each other. I am excited to help bring the mission, vision, and S.M.I.L.E. values—Story, Move, Illuminate, Light, and Energy—to life here at JCHS.
ABOUT RAE of SUNSHINE, KY
Rae of Sunshine KY was founded in loving memory of Taylor Rae Nolan, a radiant young woman whose life was cut short by suicide in 2019. In the wake of this tragedy, her mother, Taylora Schlosser, turned grief into purpose—creating a nonprofit committed to breaking the stigma around mental health and spreading kindness through action.
The mission of the organization involves eliminating the stigma of mental health & increasing access and resources to Social & Emotional Health support resources through positive acts of kindness. They envision a world where every person feels seen, supported, and empowered to prioritize their mental health without fear or shame.
