Anna Mae Vaughn Combs Obituary

Posted

Anna Mae Vaughn Combs was born on April 3, 1933 in Richmond, Kentucky and met her Savior on March 25, 2025 being 91 years of age. She was the daughter of Willie Vaughn and Ellen Gibson Vaughn, who preceded her in death. Anna Mae was one of their nine children - Bubba Vaughn, Geneva (Sis) Prewitt, Alma Williams, Virginia (Jenny) Cates, Georgia Grant, Foster Vaughn, Mary Williams, and Catherine Cable, all who preceded Anna Mae in death.

She was united in marriage to Finley Combs on December 26, 1949. They were married 55 years until his passing. The couple had two daughters, Jeanie Combs Crowe McGee, who also preceded her in death, and Roxann Combs Vaughn. Anna Mae had three grandchildren, Nikki Crowe Browning (Jeff), Jason Vaughn (Becky), and Josh McGee. Anna Mae’s greatest joys were her four great-grandchildren: Canaan Browning, Larkin Vaughn, Maddox Vaughn, and Bellamy Vaughn. Anna Mae was also an “honorary Mamaw” to more than 15 children that she babysat over the years. Family was of the utmost importance to Anna Mae and she is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whom she loved dearly.

Anna Mae had many occupations and hobbies in her lifetime, including babysitting, multiple factory jobs, farming, running Bond Grocery for ten years, as well as having jobs for each family member on Saturday mornings. She was very involved in a farming lifestyle, growing tobacco and raising cattle nearly all her life on her farm. Above all, she loved her family deeply and was a great example of a strong Christian character, shining the light of the Lord to all that she encountered. Anna Mae was a member of Annville Baptist Church, where she served the Lord earnestly for several years alongside many friends and family. Her unwavering faith was an inspiration to all.

Anna Mae was extremely proud of her family, heritage, the farm, and her faith. She always insisted on all family, blood relatives or not, to be together in fellowship often. She loved being involved and active in each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s lives so she could brag on each and every one of them to others at any given chance. She solidified her family, being the “matriarch” of the Combs and Vaughn lineage. Anna Mae’s presence and deep love for her family embraced the foundation of a strong Christian family that loves each other unconditionally. Even if she did it by “tough love,” she made all of her family better Christians and people through her benevolence. Anna Mae’s compassion, colorful personality, and beautiful example of a faithful Christian will be deeply missed by many.

Funeral Services for Anna Mae will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Lakes Funeral Home in McKee with Bro. David Wilson and Bro. Jerry Vaughn presiding.
