Annville Man Receives Prison Sentence After Pleading Guilty to Theft and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Laurel County Sheriff John Root reported that Christopher Brian Mathis, 42, of Annville, KY pled guilty in Laurel Circuit Court to convicted felon in possession of a firearm and received a sentence of 10 years in prison.

Mathis also pled guilty to theft by unlawful taking – firearm and received a sentence of five years in prison for that crime. The sentences are to run consecutively with one another; therefore, Mathis received a total of 15 years in prison for the two crimes.

Laurel Sheriff's Detective Tommy Houston arrested Christopher Brian Mathis, 42, of Annville, KY, on September 4, 2024, at approximately 7:40 PM. The arrest occurred off Hal Rogers Parkway, west of London, following an investigation by the Sheriff's Office.

Allegedly, Mathis made unlawful entry into several vehicles on a business parking lot stealing firearms from three separate vehicles along with other items from a fourth vehicle. Sheriff's investigators were able to recover much of the reported stolen items including all three firearms from a residence in Jackson County. Power tools and money were also recovered.

Christopher Brian Mathis was charged with four counts of theft by unlawful taking $1000 or more but under $10,000; three counts of theft by unlawful taking – firearm; three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
