Edmund Chaney, 44, of Tyner, KY, appeared before Judge Oscar Gayle House in Circuit Court on November 04, 2025 for sentencing in two cases: 25-CR-00075 & 25-CR-00049.
Chaney had appeared before Judge Oscar Gayle House in Circuit Court on September 02, 2025, for pretrial conferences in these two separate cases. During these pretrial conferences, Chaney reached plea deals with the Commonwealth prosecutors in both cases.
Chaney was arrested on October 10, 2022 by KSP Trooper T. Robinson. In Case #23-CR-00075, Chaney was accused of assault, 1st degree and terroristic threatening, 3rd degree. Jason Trevor Montgomery obtained complaint warrant #E05510004349539 alleging that on September 09, 2022 Chaney committed the crime of assault, 1st degree when he “shoved 79-year-old victim, Bertha Lamb, (who was on oxygen) down to her kitchen floor. While she was lying on the floor Chaney allegedly took his foot and repeatedly stomped on her right leg resulting in the victim being transported by a family member to the hospital due to a significant loss of blood. In addition, the complaint alleges that Chaney committed the crime of terroristic threatening when he unsheathed a hunting knife he was carrying on his side and threatened to stab and behead a second victim, Aletha Westrick, who is the girlfriend of Tommy Lamb (both reside with Bertha Lamb).
As a result of the plea deal, Chaney entered a plea of guilty to the amended charge of Assault, 2nd degree. The Commonwealth prosecutors agreed to dismiss the charge of terroristic threatening, 3rd degree, as part of the plea deal.
At the sentencing hearing earlier this month, Judge House sentenced Chaney to five (5) years imprisonment for the crime of assault, 2nd degree. The sentence will be allowed to run concurrently with the sentence imposed in the second case.
In Case #25-CR-00049, while attempting to flee from law enforcement and avoid being served with a warrant for the case mentioned above, Chaney was arrested and charged with Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree (motor vehicle), Fleeing or Evading on foot, 2nd Degree (police officer), Resisting Arrest, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (police officer), and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree.
Sheriff Daniel Isaacs reported that on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, at approximately 10:05 am, Chaney was arrested and charged with multiple felonies.
The arrest stemmed from an active investigation regarding criminal warrant service at the Jackson County Judicial Center, where Chaney was identified by several on-duty Jackson County Court Security Officers as having an active warrant for his arrest for Assault in the first Degree and Terrorist threats in the third Degree. Upon being identified by CSO Justin Rose, Chaney fled on foot before entering a white 2011 Chevrolet Suburban and fleeing from the scene.
At this time, Sheriff Daniel Isaacs, alongside Special Deputy Brandon Evans, began a pursuit of Chaney traveling northbound along Highway 89.
Sheriff Isaacs reported that throughout this pursuit two members of the motoring public were placed at risk due to Chaney’s driving behavior by narrowly missing them along the southbound lane of Highway 89 as well as Chaney driving 87 mph passing McKee Elementary School in an active school zone.
Sheriff Daniel Isaacs performed a Precision Immobilization Technique to bring this dangerous pursuit to a swift end. The final end location of the pursuit was along Highway 89 North in the Macedonia community.
Immediately upon having exited the roadway due to the emergency technique Sheriff Isaacs performed, Chaney fled on foot for a short distance before being apprehended.
No members of the public were injured as a result, and this was a contained incident. No member of the public was deemed to be at risk.
In accordance with the plea deal reached in Circuit Court last week regarding this case, Chaney agreed to plead guilty to the charge of fleeing or evading police, 2nd degree (on foot), as well as pleading guilty to the charge of wanton endangerment, 1st degree (Involving a Police Officer). The Commonwealth Attorney agreed to dismiss the remaining charges as part of the plea deal.
At the sentencing hearing on November 04, 2025, Judge House sentenced Chaney to 18 months (1.5 years) imprisonment for the crime of fleeing or evading police, 2nd degree (on foot). Chaney was also sentenced to 18 months (1.5 years) imprisonment for the crime of wanton endangerment, 1st degree (Police).
These two sentences are to run consecutive to one another for a total of 3 years imprisonment. Chaney’s three (3) years imprisonment sentence will run concurrently with the five (5) year sentence imposed for the separate case involving assault.
