Church of Latter-day Saints Assist with Flood Cleanup

Posted

When devastating flash floods struck Jackson County, Kentucky in late June, they left behind damaged homes, businesses, and countless families facing the difficult task of recovery.

On July 18, nearly 40 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from across Central Kentucky traveled to McKee to serve alongside Jackson County Emergency Management. Volunteers worked at six locations, clearing debris, mucking out flooded homes, cleaning barns and greenhouses, rebuilding washed-out driveways, and meeting with residents to assess their needs.

The Church also donated food, water, hygiene kits, cleaning kits, and cleanup supplies to support ongoing relief efforts.

"Following the Savior's example of quiet, compassionate service is something we strive for," said President Geoff Carlson of the Lexington Kentucky Stake. "We're grateful for the chance to help."

Beyond the cleanup, volunteers sought to bring hope, reminding those affected that they are loved, remembered, and not alone.
