Court Security Officers Complete TASER Safety Training

Training highlights safe, responsible application of TASER X26 and TASER 7 devices

Posted

Deputy Andrew Brewer recently certified court security officers Austin Baldwin, Tori Baldwin, Scott McCreary, and Caira Madden in the safety and application of the TASER X26 and TASER 7, strengthening their preparedness for situations that may require a less-lethal response.

The course followed Deputy Brewer’s completion of the TASER Instructor Class offered by Axon, the company that provides TASER energy weapon training resources for law enforcement and public safety professionals.

The instruction emphasized safe handling, appropriate deployment, legal and policy considerations, and the importance of using sound judgment before any use of force.

Conducted energy weapons such as the TASER X26 and TASER 7 are designed to temporarily incapacitate a person from a safer distance than some other force options. Training materials stress that officers must understand the specific model they are carrying, follow current warnings and agency policy, and comply with applicable laws before handling or deploying the device.

Safety considerations were a key part of the certification. Officers are trained to recognize risks such as falls or other secondary injuries, flammable environments, vulnerable individuals, and the need to avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposures. Current guidance also emphasizes de-escalation when possible and careful decision-making when no immediate safety threat is present.

The TASER 7 certification course is designed to help operators safely and effectively use the device through a combination of online learning, practical drills, and live deployments. Instruction includes proper deployment techniques, probe placement, tactical considerations, basic care and maintenance, and troubleshooting.

For court security officers, the training supports readiness in a setting where maintaining order and protecting the public are daily responsibilities. By completing certification, officers gain a clearer understanding of when TASER devices may be appropriate, how to reduce risks during deployment, and how to document and respond after an incident.

Deputy Brewer’s instruction reflects an ongoing commitment to professional standards, officer safety, and public safety. The certification ensures that court security personnel are better prepared to use less-lethal tools responsibly, only when justified, and in accordance with training and policy.
