Generals Cross Country Wraps Up Historic Season at State Meet

Posted

The Jackson County Generals’ cross-country teams capped off their season with strong performances at the KHSAA State Championships, highlighted by personal bests, a school record milestone, and a historic podium finish.

On the girls’ side, two runners achieved personal records on the challenging state course at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Lillie Davidson crossed the line in 24:10.34, marking her fastest time of the season.

Kylie Martin also delivered a breakout race, clocking a 25:15.83 to close out her season on a high note.

Both runners’ PRs reflected the steady improvement and determination that defined the Lady Generals’ year, showing the program’s continued growth and determination to rebuild to a championship level.

For the boys’ team, the Generals battled hard but fell just short of their overall team goal. Even so, junior standout Malachi Shannon made school history by becoming the first male athlete from Jackson County to reach the podium at the state meet. Shannon’s time of 17:18.01 was a personal course record and placed him among the top 15 runners in the state, earning him a well-deserved medal and another section in the Generals’ record books.

Head Coach Dean Rader praised both squads for their resilience and commitment throughout the season. “We’re proud of every runner’s effort and the way they represented Jackson County,” Rader said. “Malachi’s podium finish and our girls’ PRs show what happens when hard work meets belief. Our boys' team was the fastest team we've had, but their gap time is too high. Making them susceptible to our competition. We know what needs to be done, but are we willing to do it?

Our only Seniors are Jake Collett and Scarlett Peel. So with some much needed recruiting and consistency from the returning student athletes, we could have great xc season next year. I've got to do better as their Coach as well in order to make that happen "

The Generals now look ahead to the upcoming indoor and outdoor track and field season, carrying with them the momentum and confidence of a state-level performance that made Jackson County history. It's remarkable what this program has been able to do in such a short amount of time.
