Matthew Hamman, 30, of McKee, KY, appeared before Judge Oscar Gayle House in Circuit Court on Tuesday, March 03, 2026 for arraignment in Case #26-CR-00008. A Grand Jury returned an indictment against Hamman on February 03, 2026.

On October 22, 2025, Deputy C. Baldwin had received information indicating a location for Matthew Hamman, whom he knew to have four (4) outstanding warrants for his arrest. The location described to Deputy Collins was in the 7000 block of US HWY 421 North in Sand Gap.

Deputy Collins was also given a vehicle description to which Hamman was observed positioned in the driver’s side seat and informed that Hamman was armed with a handgun on his right hip in a holster.

Deputy Collins arrived at the scene and activated his emergency equipment alongside his spotlight, exited his patrol vehicle and identified himself as a member of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Collins ordered Hamman to exit his vehicle with his hands in the air. Upon Hamman’s realization that Deputy Collins was a law enforcement officer, he turned away and ran on foot behind a residence in the area and down a blacktop driveway going toward an open field. Deputy Collins, along with MPD Chief Zach Bryant gave chase after Hamman, and shortly thereafter caught up to him.

In uniform citation #EW35169, Deputy Collins reported that Hamman actively resisted himself and Chief Bryant when they were ordering him to place his hands behind his back as he was under arrest. At this time, Deputy Collins utilized approximately 3-4 (three to four) cycles of a Drive Stun of his agency issued Tazer 7.

After successfully taking Hamman into custody and having him in handcuffs, Deputy Collins located a SCCY brand CPX-1 model 9mm handgun holstered on Hamman’s right hip. The chamber was loaded in addition to having a full magazine.

Hamman was taken into custody without further incident. He denied medical treatment.

Hamman was transported to the Jackson County Detention Center where he was booked and charged with fleeing or evading police, 3rd degree, wanton endangerment, 1st degree – police officer (2 Counts), resisting arrest, and menacing.

At the arraignment hearing, Hamman waived the need for a formal arraignment and entered pleas of not guilty to all charges. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for May 05, 2026. Hamman remains in custody at the Jackson County Detention Center under a $25,000 cash bond.

As in all cases at this stage of adjudication, the charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until provided due process and determined to be guilty by the court.
