Dear Community Members,
Jackson County continues to recover from the recent flood. Our road department has worked closely with the State Highway Department to clear waterways blocked by debris, including critical areas behind the new courthouse, near the old Mr. Bills building, and on KY 89 in front of the Allen Law Office.
These efforts will help minimize future flooding. Additionally, crews have completed over 50 work orders to repair landslides and slips on roadways throughout the county. We are also working directly with affected homeowners to assess damage and document needs, supported by numerous local and visiting volunteers who assisted with cleanup efforts this past weekend.
As we recover, please consider supporting our local small businesses. Choosing local tire shops, auto repair garages, parts stores, lawn and cleaning services, restaurants, and grocery stores makes a meaningful difference for our neighbors who keep Jackson County moving forward.
On July 27, the road foreman and I will meet with the State Department of Highways in Frankfort to thank state leaders for their support and to pursue funding for critical highway improvements. Following input from all three magistrates, we have a comprehensive list of roads to consider. We will also visit the capitol to thank legislators from both parties for the assistance provided through the State Emergency Management system.
Additionally, we received a contract notice from Frankfort for several roads scheduled for paving this season. This contract will be presented at the next Fiscal Court meeting for approval, and we will work with the Allen Company to finalize the timeline.
Thank you to the volunteers, our district and local road departments, and our local emergency services teams who continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to manage documentation and recovery efforts. I appreciate your continued support as we work together toward our county's recovery.
Best regards,
Paul Hays
