On August 4th-9th JCHS Cross Country Generals laced up their shoes for more than just training. The athletes dedicated their last week of summer workouts to a former teammate Landon Bond.
For our runners this week isn’t just about logging miles. It is about running with a purpose and strengthening the bond that makes our cross-country team a family. Each letter in B.O.N.D has a meaning for this team and we strive to ensure that each member understands the purpose behind them. Belief, Others, Nobility, Discipline.
Belief
Running is, at its core, an act of belief. Every time your foot hits the ground, you’re choosing to trust in your body’s ability to keep going, even when your mind whispers doubts. Belief fuels the early morning runs, the aching legs, the long stretches of quiet when it’s just you and the road. It’s believing that each step matters, that progress is possible, and that you are capable of more than you thought. In running, belief isn’t just a mindset—it’s the engine that carries you forward when everything else tells you to stop.
Others
Running may feel like a solo sport, but at its heart, it’s deeply rooted in others. It’s the teammates who push you during workouts, the coaches who believe in your potential, and the competitors who unknowingly drive you to new limits. It’s the cheers from the sidelines, the shared struggle in the rain or heat, and the silent nods between runners who understand the grind. In every race and every training run, others play a vital role—not just in helping you get faster, but in reminding you why you started. Running becomes more meaningful when it’s not just for yourself, but for the people who run beside you.
Nobility
Nobility in running isn’t about standing on podiums—it’s about how you carry yourself through the miles. It’s in showing up day after day, even when no one is watching, and giving your best simply because it’s the right thing to do. There is nobility in choosing effort over ease, in respecting your competitors, in encouraging your teammates, and in pushing your limits not for praise, but for personal growth. Running teaches that true greatness isn’t loud—it’s quiet, humble, and earned through consistent, honest work. In every stride, there is a noble pursuit of something deeper than speed: character.
Discipline
Discipline is the heartbeat of running—the steady force that turns goals into reality. It’s found in the choice to get up early, to run when it’s cold, wet, or when motivation is nowhere to be found. Discipline is what carries you through the miles when excitement fades and fatigue sets in. It’s sticking to the plan, trusting the process, and showing up even when the results aren’t immediate. In running, talent may start the journey, but discipline is what sees it through—mile after mile, day after day. It shapes not just better runners, but stronger, more resilient people.
Workouts this week included long runs, circuits in the weight room, and a cat and mouse chase. The team shared snacks or a meal after every workout. Each member was also rewarded with a small trinket to remember the training and the purpose it served.

With every mile they continue to improve not only for themselves but for their teammates. We are looking forward to another amazing and hopefully record breaking season.
“Together is a great place to be”
