Jackson County High School’s JROTC program recently awarded eight outstanding cadets with an educational and team-building trip to Gettysburg, a location rich in American history and leadership lessons. These cadets, members of the distinguished General’s Battalion, earned their place through dedication, discipline, and academic success.
To qualify for the trip, cadets were required to maintain passing grades and appear before the competitive Cadet of the Month board. This board evaluated participants through a formal question-and-answer session and a detailed uniform inspection, reinforcing both knowledge and military professionalism.
The eight cadets selected for this honor were Lucas Turner, Jesse Campos, Landon Vickers, Joshua Holstein, Aiden Thompson, Kyle Mullins, Zach Vickers, and Caleb Moore.
During their visit, cadets explored the historic Gettysburg Battlefield, where they received a private guided tour. This immersive experience allowed them to walk the grounds of one of the most significant battles of the American Civil War, gaining first hand insight into leadership, sacrifice, and strategy.
On the second day, the group visited the United States Army Heritage and Education Center. There, cadets toured interactive exhibits and observed replica World War I trenches, bringing military history to life in a powerful and engaging way. The day concluded with a visit to Hershey’s Chocolate World, where cadets enjoyed a well-earned treat and had the opportunity to relax after a day of learning.
The final day focused on team bonding and outdoor recreation. Cadets spent time fishing, playing football, and hiking at Cunningham Falls State Park, where they hiked to the scenic falls and enjoyed the natural surroundings.
This trip not only reinforced classroom lessons but also strengthened camaraderie among the cadets. Through shared experiences and challenges, these young leaders built lasting memories and deepened their appreciation for history, teamwork, and leadership.
The Jackson County JROTC program continues to provide meaningful opportunities that develop well-rounded, disciplined, and motivated young citizens.
