This program encourages folks to plant their own gardens and grow their own food. This year the program spent $20,704.05. The program is funded by property taxes. This means that almost $21,000 of your property taxes was put directly back into Jackson Countians pockets and reinvested in local businesses.
This, by far, surpassed the previous record of $14,349.31 in 2023. 308 Jackson County households received reimbursements. 2.4% of Jackson County residents and 5.1% of Jackson County households participated.
The purpose of the program is to foster: increased food security and independence, increased understanding of soil and water management, greater appreciation for local food, and increased support of the local economy.
The Jackson County Conservation District expressed appreciation for all the vendors and participants. They hope to do it again next year, maybe in even greater numbers!
