JCHS Earns High-Performing Rating for Second Consecutive Year
The 2024–25 Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) results have been released, and Jackson County High School has once again earned a GREEN rating, officially designating the school as a High-Performing High School for the second year in a row.

School administrators credit the achievement to the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and staff. We are extremely proud of our school community. These results show that when students graduate from Jackson County High School, they are well prepared for college and careers.

According to the statewide data, Jackson County High School ranked 72nd out of 228 high schools in Kentucky, placing it in the higher tier of high-performing schools. School leaders say the accomplishment reflects not only the efforts inside the school but also the continued partnership with families and community members.

This is something our entire community can be proud of. We are grateful for the support we receive from parents, guardians, and local organizations who help make student success possible.
Individual KSA score reports will be distributed to students this week.

Biology Class – The Cell Game
Ms. Ramey’s Biology classes used “the cell game” - a scientific model to explore how non-cancer cells become cancer cells. With this board game, they figure out:
Cell division happens through a series of phases, ending with mitosis, when one cell makes two new ones.

The regulation of cell division is modeled, especially the role of p53, which acts at “checkpoints” to make sure the cell has what it needs before progressing.
What happens when that regulation fails, leading to uncontrolled growth (i.e., cancer).

English – Use of Symbols
In Mrs. Smith’s English Class, students presented their culminating activity in English 3 explaining how symbols create meaning in a novel. Juniors made connections between symbols in a novel with Hexagonal Thinking. This activity promotes academic dialogue as they must align their opinions on their symbol as they unpack meaning.
