JCHS Generals Play Hard but Fall in Season Opener

Posted

The Generals opened their season Friday night, hosting a very strong Knott County Central team. Jackson County played very strong in the first half going into halftime down 7 to 0. However, some costly mistakes allowed Knott County to pull away in the second half, winning 34 to 0.
While the Generals struggled some on offense, there were a lot of positives on the defensive side, including a pair of sacks by sophomores Wyatt Dunn and Gavin Nolasco, 6 tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries by sophomores Jake Jones and Maddox Vaughn and Junior Connor Harrison. Jones also added an interception return to stop a late second quarter drive.
Coach Callebs was pleased with the team's effort and feels that as this team matures throughout the season, they can be something special. The Generals only have three seniors and eight juniors on the roster and start multiple freshman. Meanwhile, Knott County Central boasts 11 seniors on their roster and their coach noted it might be the best team program has ever produced.
Jackson County returns to action this Friday night, hosting Jellico, Tennessee. We hope to see all your Generals fans out there supporting your Jackson County football team.
