John Wesley Hornsby was born September 7, 1952, in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Pearl and Colleen (Minter) Hornsby. He departed his life on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Richmond, Kentucky at the Compassionate Care Center.

John also know as (Johnny) is survived by two children, one son Ashley (Brittany) Hornsby of Guthrie, Kentucky; one daughter Angela (Kevin) Cooper of Berea, Kentucky. He is also survived by four sisters, Sue (Don) Pennington of London, Kentucky, Carol (Chuck) Suttle of Effingham, Illinois, Therese (Jimmy) Richerson of Campbellsville and Melissa Smallwood (Keith) Pitts of Lexington, Kentucky.

John was blessed with ten grandchildren: Colton, Darren, Ethan, Houston, Judah, Kyle and Levi Hornsby all of Guthrie, Kentucky and Brayden, Bryson and Alexis Cooper all of Berea, Kentucky.

John served in the United States Army from April 6,1971, to March 26,1974, which includes 31 months in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years Sally (Bingham) Hornsby.

He enjoyed entertaining family and friends by playing guitar and singing. He considered it an honor to play guitar and sing at church in praising the Lord.

Following his service in the army, John worked in construction for several years. He served as a dispatcher, and as disaster and emergency services coordinator. John worked for 16 years with water and wastewater for the City of McKee. He retired from Jackson County Water Association after 10 years.

Funeral Services for John will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11 A.M. the Lakes Funeral Home in McKee with Bro. Kevin Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyner Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6 P.M. on Friday, July 26.

Pallbearers included Ashley Hornsby, Brayden Cooper, Colton Hornsby, Bryson Cooper, Darren Hornsby and Ethan Hornsby.
