I believe we set a record for attendance in a 3 day span in McKee this past weekend. I don't ever remember seeing a bigger crowd at the County Fair in my lifetime. The entertainment was awesome and the choice of food from the food truck was as good as anywhere you could find. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was great. The kids enjoyed the bungee experience, the inflatables, mechanical bull ride, face painting and more. The parade was almost an hour long this year. The hard work of our County Fair Board, First Responders, school groups, volunteers and inmate work release crews and supervisors as well as County employees was not in vain. I appreciate each and every one of you. Not one person had to pay admission to enjoy the festivities because of our gracious sponsors. This left the option for our fair participants to spend more money with vendors without worrying about paying to get in. Thank you everyone that came, worked or volunteered at the Jackson County Fair 2025.
From the looks of this past weekend, I believe we have officially outgrew our venue location. Thankfully we will be opening bids this week for the beginning of the dirt work on our new Fairgrounds park. The County purchased 114 acres within the city of McKee on McCammon Ridge thanks to 4 million dollars secured by Representative Timmy Truett and Senate President Robert Stivers for the development of a county park. Hopefully by this time next year we will be able to enjoy the Jackson County Fair in a brand new location. We are very hopeful that we will have enough money to get the road built into the park, utilities in, a pavilion built as well as some baseball fields. The Fiscal Court appointed a committee of community leaders from different organizations to oversee and advise the Court with recommendations on the development of the park. I will do my best to update our citizens monthly on the progress of the park.
Have a blessed week.
