It has been reported that a Madison County grand jury indicted Kaitlyn Canada, Tiffany Cox, Dylan Scenters, and Travis Blake Scenters on seven counts of first-degree criminal abuse, a Class B felony. The charges involve four children aged 10 months to 5 years old, according to the indictment.
These four defendants now face multiple felony charges after authorities discovered children living in deplorable conditions, including two boys allegedly locked in bedrooms and a toddler found wandering alone in traffic.
According to the indictment filed on September 3, the most concerning incident happened on June 29, when a 2-year-old was allegedly found "running in the middle of Edwards Avenue wearing a urine and feces soaked diaper" after being left unsupervised.
The document reveals that two other children were allegedly locked in a bedroom "by nailing/screwing it shut," placing them "in a situation that could cause serious physical injury" and subjecting them to "cruel confinement and/or cruel punishment and/or torture."
All the children were forced to live in what prosecutors describe as "filthy and unhealthy conditions which included animal feces and urine on the floor and other surfaces, spoiled or no food, filthy bedding and a lack of hygiene."
The indictment states the defendants failed to provide "the care and services necessary to maintain the health and welfare" of the children in their custody.
