On January 17, 2026, KSP Trooper J. Coffey was patrolling the Clover Bottom community of Jackson County when he observed a female standing in the road on Williams Hollow Road.
Trooper Coffey recognized that the female was Samara Johnson, 27, of McKee, KY. Trooper Coffey also knew that Ms. Johnson had multiple arrest warrants, so he exited his vehicle and ordered her to stop.
According to Uniform Citation #FD70150, Ms. Johnson looked at the Trooper and began to walk away. When she was ordered a second time to stop, she began running away. Ms. Johnson scaled a fence, and Trooper Coffey deployed his state-issued taser, which made contact with one of the fence barbs. This caused Johnson to fall to the ground, giving Trooper Coffey time to reach the fence. Ms. Johnson continued to resist, and Trooper Coffey deployed a drive stun with his Taser. Ms. Johnson managed to get on her back and started kicking the law enforcement officer in the legs and chest. After a short time, Trooper Coffey was able to handcuff her and assisted her to his patrol car.
While this incident was occurring and after she was placed in the car, Ms. Johnson continued to scream and cause a disturbance. Trooper Coffey reported in the citation that, based on his training, he believed that Johnson was under the influence.
Johnson was transported to the Jackson County Detention Center, where she was booked and charged with “fleeing or evading police, 2nd degree (on foot)”, “assault 3rd degree – police officer”, “disorderly conduct, 2nd degree”, “public intoxication – controlled sub (excludes alcohol)”, “menacing”, and “resisting arrest”.
Ms. Johnson is scheduled to appear in District Court on Thursday, January 22, 2026 for arraignment. The case has been assigned # 26-F-00008.
As in all cases at this stage of adjudication, the charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until provided due process and determined to be guilty by the court.
