“Sobering.” Sobering is realizing when $40 trillion in one dollar bills are stacked one atop another; they would reach the moon and back six times. When I first started using that national debt analogy back in the mid-1990s ($5 trillion) they would have gotten you to the moon once, but not back. Inflation builds exponentially, boys and girls.
The debate is as old as the Republic itself. Alexander Hamilton lobbied a skeptical President Washington for maintenance of a national debt. Jefferson, Jackson, Cleveland, Harding, and Coolidge all took concrete steps in attempts to reign in the beast. When was the last time you recall this topic even being raised in Washington, D.C.?
That last question was of course rhetorical. It doesn’t matter what the politicians promise; keep an eye on the bond markets (particularly Japan’s). The era of “free money” interest rate levels has finally closed. As Japanese bond yields creep upwards, the American shell game of financing our ballooning national debt with the sale of US Treasuries (held chiefly by Japanese investors; investors now incentivised to keep more of their cash in domestic bonds) could come home to roost in a spectacular fashion.
Spiraling interest rates, further currency inflation (and commensurate devaluation of savings and retirement accounts), layoffs, and sudden reductions in domestic government spending would make the authoritarian dictations of the Wuhan hysteria seem like child’s play (now supercharged by Flock cameras and drone surveillance; for our “safety,” of course).
Has this been the plan all along? Familiarize yourself with the writings of the Democratic Socialist Professors Cloward and Pivens. When this extremist-dominated Democrat Party returns to power, they will follow the Cloward-Pivens model to “overwhelm the system” (complete the bankruptcy of private healthcare; unlimited Third World infiltration/mass amnesty; and accelerated wealth confiscation).
But wait, there's more: Statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C. (netting four more permanent Democrat US Senate seats); packing of the US Supreme Court (to rubber stamp all their shenanigans); and the cementing of mob rule with the abolishment of the Electoral College.
How does it all play out? As others have noted, we've already been given a preview: Never forget the Rhodesians foolishly gave up their guns.
