Vadis (Isaacs) Sizemore

Posted

Vadis (Isaacs) Sizemore was born September 3, 1940, in Jackson County and departed this life Friday, August 14, 2026, at her granddaughter’s residence in Booneville, at the age of 85. She was the daughter of the late Esau & Zella (Powell) Isaacs.

Vadis leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children: Kathy Vickers and her husband Eugene of Berea, Connie Hays and her husband Tracey of Berea and Beverly McQueen and her husband, Rick of McKee. Vadis was blessed with twelve grandchildren Bural Culton, Bryian Culton, Alyssia Gullette, Jessie (Randal) Weaver, Joshua McQueen, Jamie (Kyle) Welch, Genia (Robby) Isaacs, Skyler McQueen, Justin Mullins, Kelsey (Adam) Duncan, Jordan (Elisha) Hisel, & Vanessa Vickers, as well as a host of great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by one brother, John Isaacs of Richmond, by four sisters: Alice Lainhart of Georgetown, OH, Shirley Eversole of Berea, Patsy Jones and Judy Harrison both of Sand Gap.

In addition to her parents, Vadis was preceded in death by two daughters: Rachel Culton and Debra Mullins, as well as eleven siblings: Charlie Isaacs, Malcolm Isaacs, Esau Isaacs, Raymond Isaacs, Mary Coyle, Nora Abner, Gracie Isaacs, Dulia Dawson, Reba Isaacs, Jerry Isaacs, and Boyd Isaacs.

Vadis was of the holiness faith. She was a devoted Christian who faithfully served her Lord. She would often say of Him, “He has been my best friend.” Her faith was the foundation of her life, giving her strength, comfort, and peace through every season. Her light shone brightly to those around her—including her family, friends, and the nurses and caregivers who had the privilege of caring for her. Serving the Lord and attending church were deeply important to Vadis.

She loved her church family and often encouraged others to work for the Lord while they still could. Even as her health declined, her faith remained steadfast. She would reminisce about the many blessings God had given her and the church services she had attended throughout her life. During her final days, Vadis spoke of one of her greatest desires: that all of her family would one day be together in Heaven. Those words remain a precious reminder of her faith and the hope she carried in her heart.

Vadis found joy in the simple things in life and, most of all, in spending time with her family. She thoroughly enjoyed a good thrifting trip to Lexington, going yard selling, working jigsaw puzzles, and taking walks outdoors with her grandchildren—often while wearing one of her beloved sunhats. Vadis had a particular love for sweet treats. She could often be found enjoying ice cream, sometimes with an ice cream in one hand and a Milky Way in the other. She would often choose sweets over a meal and especially enjoyed her butterscotch and Werther’s Original candies.

To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “Little Granny.” She loved telling them stories about her childhood—a time when life was very different. She would tell them about being a hard worker, walking long distances to school and town, working in the fields as a little girl.

Her grandchildren will always treasure the simple memories that made time with little Granny so special: bouncing a balloon and trying not to let it touch the floor, waking up to the smell of little Granny frying eggs, and the countless moments of comfort found simply in her presence.

When Vadis was in good health, one of the sights her family will never forget was seeing their little Mommy & little Granny standing by her window, waving goodbye as they drove away until they were out of sight. It was such a simple gesture, yet it reflected the love she had for her family and the special place she held in their hearts.

Vadis had a way of bringing comfort to those around her. Her love, her stories, her faith, and even the little things she did will remain treasured memories for all who knew and loved her.

Until we meet again, little Mommy & little Granny.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her granddaughters, Kelsey Duncan and Jessie Weaver, and their families for the love and care they showed her in their home. They also wish to thank Compassionate Care for the support not only for Vadis but also for the family during this difficult time.

A visitation will begin at 6pm Sunday, August 16th at Lakes Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Vadis will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday August 17th, 2026, with Bro. Dwight Northern & Bro. Steve Isaacs officiating. Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery in Sand Gap. Pallbearers include Gene Vickers, Tracey Hays, Ricky McQueen, Jordan Hisel, Justin Mullins, Adam Duncan, Randal Weaver, and Kyle Welch.
