Truett Named Co-Chair of Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee

January 30, 2025

House Speaker David Osborne announced last week that Representative Timmy Truett of McKee is the new Co-Chair of the Kentucky Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee. "I'm incredibly pleased to see the direction this committee is heading in under the leadership of Rep. Truett," Osborne said. "Committees are the backbone of the legislative process, serving as the critical mechanism by which complex issues are studied, debated, and refined. They allow legislators to focus on specific areas of policy and provide a dedicated environment for public input, enabling citizens, experts, and advocacy groups to have their voices heard in the policymaking process."
"I am honored to have been appointed as Co-Chair of the Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee," said Truett. "As a principal, I've seen firsthand the important role education plays in a child's life and development. I look forward to bringing my experience in education to this committee and ensuring our education system is meeting the needs of Kentucky students."
The Education Assessment & Accountability Review Subcommittee is responsible for reviewing rules and policies regarding education issued by the executive branch, advising the Kentucky Board of Education concerning the implementation of the state system of assessment and accountability, and providing oversight and direction to the Office of Education Accountability.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, a committee chair "serves as the parliamentary head of a committee. The chair sets the committee's agenda, determining when -- or in many states, whether -- bills will be considered."
In addition to leading the committee, Truett will also serve as a member of the Appropriations and Revenue; Economic Development and Workforce Investment; Primary and Secondary Education; Postsecondary Education; and Tourism and Outdoor Recreation committees.
The 2025 Regular Session convened on Tuesday, January 7. Legislators will meet for 30 legislative days before adjourning at the end of March.
