Authorities in Louisiana are reporting that 18-year-old Jose Francisco Herrera Munoz and 19-year-old Angel Gonzales Gutierrez have been charged with attempting to introduce contraband and distribute methamphetamine in a penal institution.

The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that an investigation revealed the suspects' plan to use a cannon to launch $112,000 worth of tobacco and $89,500 worth of methamphetamine into a federal prison.

Authorities indicated that the cannon, capable of projecting items 350 feet into the air, was intended to transport the contraband over the federal prison’s security fence and onto its grounds.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also participated in the investigation and took Munoz into custody, who was reportedly residing in the U.S. illegally.
