Jackson County earned a measure of revenge last Tuesday, defeating Barbourville 47–39 to improve to 8–4 on the season and claim the third-place trophy at the Cumberland Falls Invitational. The win came just weeks after a close loss to Barbourville on the Generals’ home floor, and the Generals made sure this time the result would be different.
Wyatt Gray led the Generals with 14 points, while Ashton Clemons added 11. Tansen Truett scored seven points, Braxton Coyle and Joona Holm chipped in five apiece, Brennon Combs finished with three, and Tyler Sandlin added two.
Gray and Truett were both named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances throughout the event.
Jackson County coach Parker Stewart said the win was a testament to his team’s toughness and growth.
“I’m very proud of our boys tonight,” Jackson County coach Parker Stewart said. “We felt like we let one slip away versus Barbourville at home a couple weeks ago and it was great to see us execute down the stretch and be able to finish the game out tonight. Barbourville is a physical, well-coached team, and we know it’s never going to be an easy game versus them. We have a group of guys that are tough, together, and unselfish and I love coaching them.”
The Generals followed up the win over Barbourville with a double overtime win over Sayre (out of Lexington) 71-68 at home. Wyatt Gray led the Generals scoring 24 points on the night. Gray connected on 9/15 field goals for 60%. Tansen Truett was just behind him with a total of 22 points for the Generals. Truett was perfect on the night connecting on 8/8 field goals for 100%. Brennon Combs added 12 points, followed by Joona Holm (6 pts), Tyler Sandlin (5 pts), and Ashton Clemons (2 pts.) This win improved the Generals record to 9-4.
On Monday night, the Generals turned in their most explosive offensive performance in more than a year, rolling past Trinity Christian 96-39.
The 96 points marked the highest scoring output for the Generals since a 96-point effort against Lee County on Dec. 2, 2023, and moved Jackson County to 10-4 on the season—just one win shy of matching last year’s 11-win total.
The Generals set the tone early and never looked back, showcasing unselfish offense and relentless defensive pressure throughout the contest.
Brennon Combs delivered a career night, pouring in a personal-best 31 points while knocking down six three-pointers to lead all scorers. Tyler Sandlin followed with 16 points, while Joona Holm added 12. Tansen Truett finished in double figures as well with 11 points.
The Generals’ balanced scoring reflected an offense that consistently moved the ball and found high-percentage looks, while their defense fueled transition opportunities and kept Trinity Christian in check.
“I was impressed to see how well our guys shared the ball tonight,” Generals Head Coach Parker Stewart said. “We continue to hang our hat on defense. This group has really improved since the summer and continues to show up everyday ready to get better. Brennon Combs had a huge night. He deserves it. He’s a hard worker and elite competitor — never takes a play off. Very happy for him.”
