Lady Generals Secure First Wins of the Season At Smoky Mountain Classic

The Lady Generals picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, edging Hamilton, Ala., 38-34, at the Smoky Mountain Classic in Gatlinburg.

Junior Baylee Berry led the way for the Lady Generals with 11 points and six rebounds, providing a steady presence on both ends of the floor. Sophomore Rylee Bowman followed with nine points and four rebounds as the Lady Generals leaned on balanced scoring to secure the victory.

Seventh grader Sofia Martinez stepped up in a big way, finishing with seven points, three assists and three steals, while fellow seventh grader Adi Brockman added four points and five rebounds. Hannah Jackson chipped in three points, and Scarlett Peel and Kyle Martin each scored two.

Tilly Truett, also a seventh grader, contributed in multiple areas with five rebounds and three assists as the Lady Generals made key plays down the stretch to hold off Hamilton and seal the win.

The Lady Generals picked up their second straight victory Friday, defeating Monterey, Tennessee 49-41 to improve to 2-4 on the season.

Baylee Berry once again led the way for the Lady Generals, finishing with a team-high 16 points and six rebounds. Berry’s scoring presence helped Jackson County maintain control throughout the game and close out the win down the stretch.

Seventh grader Sophia Martinez continued her strong play, reaching double figures with 13 points while going 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Martinez also dished out four assists, providing a steady presence at the point guard spot.

Another seventh grader, Adi Brockman, added nine points by knocking down three 3-point field goals. Rylee Bowman contributed four points and six rebounds, while Tilly Truett added two points and a team-high nine rebounds to help control the boards.

Kara Harris finished with two points, and Scarlett Peel added one as the Lady Generals showed balance across the lineup.
With the win, Jackson County advanced to the championship game of its bracket, scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Principal Greg Parrett and the JCHS reported, “Lady Generals finish runner-up in our bracket at the Smoky Mountain Classic! So proud of their fight, heart, and effort all tournament long. They left it all on the court. Keep playing hard, girls — big things ahead!”
