JCMS 8[th] Grade Earns 13[th] Region All "A" Runners-Up

by JCMS Coach Austin Gabbard

Another week of basketball has passed for the Generals. As our season begins to wind down, we have seen some great performances and some more tough losses. On Monday, December 9[th], all three teams faced Clay County. The 6th grade got a very good win! They started a little slow but bounced back and took control. Unfortunately, the 7th grade lost by a wide margin. The 8th grade battled all the way until the end and came up with a double-digit win over the Tigers.
On Tuesday, December 10th, the 7th and 8th grades played Owsley County, and the 7th grade got a good win over the Owls. Also, that night was our 8[th]-grade night at the middle school, as we recognized various sports and activities at school and recognized our 8[th]-grade boys. They battled through and got a big win over the Owls as well. That game was also special as we got to let our 8[th]-grade team manager, a middle school student, Chase Shearer, play in the game for a few minutes.
On Thursday, December 12[th], all three of our teams faced off against the Corbin Red Hounds. The 6th grade started off the first half in a close contest but ultimately was defeated by a wide margin. The 7th grade battled through to the end and got the victory over Corbin at the end. Our 8[th]-grade boys, despite a hard-fought game, lost the game to Corbin. Over this past weekend, the 8[th]-grade boys went to Harlan to play in the 13[th] Region All "A" tournament. The boys made it all the way to the championship game but, unfortunately, were defeated by just 5 points by Pineville. They wound up being the runner-up, so we are very proud of them. We are very proud of all of our teams and the hard work that they put in on and off the court.
